Commotion At Bersatu Assembly Over Calls For President To Step Down

07/09/2025 01:07 AM

SHAH ALAM, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- The 8th Bersatu Annual General Assembly turned chaotic today when several groups staged a provocation, demanding its president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, to step down.

The incident occurred during the presidential policy speech when Muhyiddin touched on attempts to topple his leadership through the collection of signatures.

“I hear some people are collecting signatures to bring down the president. This is an action that contravenes the party's constitution. If the president can be brought down through the collection of signatures, then everyone on this stage can also be toppled the same way.

“Division chiefs, Armada chiefs, Srikandi chiefs, Srikandi Muda chiefs, associate chiefs and all division committee members could face the same fate,” he said in his speech at the assembly today.

Following that, his speech was met with shouts of ‘not true’ from a group of delegates believed to be rejecting the claim, followed by chants of ‘step down, Tan Sri’, leading to a commotion among delegates as others tried to calm the situation.

Meanwhile, at a press conference, Muhyiddin said he had no prior knowledge of the outburst and that the matter would be reviewed by the security team for further action.
