JERTIH, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- The Community Development Department (Kemas) will expand its tahfiz programme, Thalatha Tis’a, to 100 nurseries (Taska) nationwide next year.
Its director-general Datuk Mohd Hanafiah Man said the programme, introduced this year, complements the Pra Tahfiz programme launched by Kemas last year.
“The programme is aimed at producing a Quran-literate generation from as young as three years old, while the Pra Tahfiz programme starts at ages five to six.
“So far, the pilot Thalatha Tis’a programme has been operating in four nurseries, one each in Besut, Hulu Terengganu, Dungun and Putrajaya,” he told reporters after launching the Terengganu-level Santunan Desa Kemas and Wacana Ilmu Wanita Inspirasiku programmes in Kampung Keluang here today.
Mohd Hanafiah said about 1,000 children aged three to four are expected to take part in the Thalatha Tis’a programme at the 100 nurseries.
To ensure the smooth running of the programme, he said selected Kemas nursery teachers will attend courses and workshops in collaboration with Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) and Yayasan Pahang.
He added that response from parents to the programmes had been very encouraging, with enrolment at Kemas nurseries and kindergartens (Tabika) continuing to rise.
