PORT DICKSON, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- A couple’s plan to distribute food as charity after Friday prayers at Tanjung Agas Mosque has turned into a tahlil for their two children who drowned in a car mishap today.
Tahlil is a gathering for special prayer to send the spiritual rewards of acts of worship to a deceased Muslim.
Family friend, Aahanisa Hamid, 49, said she met the parents last night to discuss their planned infaq, a charitable donation in the form of 400 food packets to be distributed to Friday congregants for three consecutive weeks.
“None of us expected the change. Earlier today, they asked me to go ahead with the cooking, but now for a tahlil in memory of their son and daughter at the mosque tomorrow.
“InsyaAllah, we will fulfil this request as it is their trust for us to handle the ceremony for their children,” she said when met at the Port Dickson Hospital mortuary today.
Earlier, the siblings, aged six and eight, drowned after the family’s parked car slid into Sungai Tanjung Agas. Their parents, both in their 40s, survived.
Port Dickson police chief Supt Maslan Udin said the emergency call on the incident was received at 11.24 am.
