Sabah Needs Visionary Leaders For Future Development - Nurul Izzah

SANDAKAN, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- Sabah needs representatives with a clear voice, vision and mission for development over the next five to 10 years to ensure the state is in a better position than it is today, says PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar.

She said having visionary leaders in Sabah was crucial, as the state faced various issues related to development, infrastructure, citizenship, and legacies of past administrations.

"During the PKR Annual National Congress 2024/2025 (in May), I mentioned 13 seats (targeted for contest in the Sabah state election), but we also depend on the voices of the people. The most important thing is ensuring that Keadilan, which has been in Sabah since 1999, continues to take root.

"For me, visionary leaders are important, so it doesn't really matter how many (seats are contested), but of course, in Pakatan Harapan’s policy, we want to ensure we serve as a voice that adds value to the people of Sabah," she told reporters after attending the ‘Sabah Bersama MADANI’ tour here today.

Meanwhile, she said Sabah was among the most mature states in demonstrating changes in government, and from early on had been an inspiration to many in Peninsular Malaysia, with its strong racial unity.

She added that the sentiment of voting for local parties was not a challenge, as the candidates fielded by the party in the 17th state election would all be Sabah-born and would carry the people’s voices.

The 16th Sabah State Legislative Assembly will dissolve automatically on Nov 11, unless dissolved earlier, paving the way for the 17th state election.
