JAKARTA, Sept 11 (Bernama) -- The flood situation in Bali is steadily improving, with no Malaysians reported to be affected, said Malaysia’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Datuk Syed Mohamad Hasrin Tengku Hussin.

He said five Malaysians were stranded on Wednesday after their hotel area was flooded, but all of them have since safely departed for home this morning.

“Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport has also resumed normal operations,” he told Bernama.

Syed Mohamad Hasrin said the embassy will continue to monitor the flood situation in Bali and maintain close contact with the local authorities from time to time.

Malaysians in need of consular assistance may contact the Embassy of Malaysia in Jakarta at +62 81380813036.

They may also contact the Honorary Consul of Malaysia in Bali at +62 361751953.

Heavy rain on the resort island of Bali on Wednesday triggered flooding in several areas, including Jembrana, Gianyar, Badung, Tabanan, Karangasem, Klungkung and Denpasar.

To date, 14 people have been confirmed dead, two remain missing and 659 others have been affected by the disaster, Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said in a statement.
