MELAKA, Sept 11 (Bernama) – The 19th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) today continued its consultations with dialogue partners — China, Japan, and South Korea — to further strengthen regional cooperation.
This ASEAN+3 engagement forms part of ASEAN’s ongoing efforts to tackle challenges related to transnational crimes across the region.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, as Chair of the 19th AMMTC, arrived at the venue of the meeting at about 8 am, accompanied by Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Awang Alik Jeman.
Also present were ASEAN Secretary-General Dr Kao Kim Hourn and representatives from ASEAN member states, as well as from Timor-Leste.
Today’s agenda will also feature the handover of the AMMTC chairmanship to the Philippines later in the evening, marking the republic as host of the ASEAN chairmanship next year.
Melaka has become the regional focal point this week as ASEAN ministers and senior officials responsible for security and law enforcement gather from Sept 8 to 12 for the 19th AMMTC and its related meetings.
The five-day programme focuses on enhancing regional cooperation to address various transboundary crime threats.
The 19th AMMTC and related meetings are held in conjunction with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability”, reflecting the country’s commitment to building a safer and more prosperous ASEAN community.
