KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 (Bernama) – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will host the 21st ASEAN Parties Against Corruption (ASEAN PAC) Meeting to be held in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, from Oct 28 to 30.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the meeting, themed ‘ASEAN Unity: Public-Private Partnerships to Combat Corruption’, will be attended by representatives from 10 ASEAN countries along with several international organisations, in addition to Timor-Leste, which is attending as an observer.
“The objective of this ASEAN PAC is to strengthen regional cooperation through smart partnerships between the public and private sectors in combating corruption.
“It will also provide an opportunity for MACC to share anti-corruption initiatives that have been carried out, in addition to obtaining views from other countries on their efforts,” he said in a special interview at the MACC Headquarters in Putrajaya yesterday.
According to Azam, the meeting will also help improve the assessment of Malaysia’s Corruption Perception Index (CPI) because the efforts carried out will benefit not only at the national level, but also at the regional level.
Meanwhile, Azam said the MACC would launch a national-level anti-corruption programme, Keep Malaysia Clean (KMC), in conjunction with its anniversary celebration on Oct 1, which is scheduled to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said the programme would be organised in collaboration with the Consultation and Corruption Prevention Panel (PPPR), and with strategic support from Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
“The KMC will be carried out for 15 months as an action plan to introduce a new approach in instilling clean values, civic responsibility and integrity in all sectors, including the government, private sector, students and the community.
“This programme will adopt a clearer strategy by focusing on the target groups that have been identified,” he said.
