MELAKA, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail today inspected the final preparations for the 19th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC) and related meetings at DoubleTree by Hilton here.
The five-day AMMTC, which began today, focuses on strengthening regional cooperation and combating cross-border-related crimes.
Also present were Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Awang Alik Jeman and Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar.
Saifuddin spent nearly 30 minutes inspecting the meeting preparations, including being briefed on organisational aspects, and also visited the media centre, while ASEAN leaders and delegates began arriving in stages from 3 pm today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to officially open the 19th AMMTC tomorrow, which will also feature addresses by ASEAN secretary-general Dr Kao Kim Hourn and Saifuddin.
The main discussions of the 19th AMMTC will be held on Wednesday, with ministers and delegates engaging in comprehensive dialogue covering 24 agenda items related to transnational crime, while scheduled bilateral meetings throughout the day will provide space for country-to-country talks.
On Thursday, focus will shift to consultations with dialogue partners through the 15th AMMTC+3 Consultation, 12th AMMTC+China Consultation, 10th AMMTC+Japan Consultation and 6th AMMTC+ROK Consultation, followed by a symbolic handover of the AMMTC chairmanship from Malaysia to the Philippines.
The 19th AMMTC and related meetings are being held in conjunction with Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship 2025, themed Inclusivity and Sustainability, reflecting the nation’s commitment to building a safer and more prosperous ASEAN community.
