Merdeka Bazaar Jazzes Up Malaysian National Day Celebration in Sweden

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 7 (Bernama) -- The 68th Malaysian National Day celebration in Stockholm was brought to life with the annual Merdeka Bazaar 2025 at the premises of the Malaysian Embassy, which brought together more than 300 guests including the diplomatic corps, entrepreneurs community, students, and members of the public in Sweden.

This year’s Merdeka Bazaar was held on August 25 and featured cultural performances such as joget Pahang, tarian Sumazau, and Indian classical dance, Bharatanatyam. Also featured was a demonstration of silat, which has received UNESCO recognition as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Malaysia, according to a statement by the Malaysian Embassy in Stockholm on Sunday.

This year’s celebration was also graced with a batik painting session and and sales of traditional Malaysian delicacies such as nasi lemak, roti jala, Sarawak laksa, chicken satay, and kuih bakar.

Aside from celebrating the meaningful day with the local community in Sweden, the Malaysian Embassy in Stockholm also organised a 68th National Day reception together with representatives of the government of Sweden, members of the diplomatic corps, and local stakeholders at Courtyard Marriott Stockholm on August 25, 2025. 

The reception was also attended by the Director General for Global Affairs of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden, Mikael Lindvall.

During the event, Ambassador of Malaysia to Sweden, Datin Sarimah Akbar, underscored the progress made in the bilateral relations between Malaysia and Sweden, especially in the fields of investment and trade.

Sarimah also highlighted Malaysia’s role as ASEAN 2025 Chair and the promotion of Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.
