SANDAKAN, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- Muslims in Sabah must embrace the life of Prophet Muhammad SAW through daily practice as a community that is responsible and devoted to religion, race and nation, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

He said the Maulidur Rasul celebration is not only about commemorating the birth of the Prophet, but also a manifestation of love for him and a commitment to making the Sunnah and Islam a guide in shaping a progressive Madani society.

“The Prophet built the society of Madinah on the foundations of faith, social justice and inter-racial unity. This model should be emulated and adapted to Sabah’s reality, which is rich in ethnic, cultural and religious diversity,” he said in his speech at the state-level Maulidur Rasul 1447H/2025M gathering at Dewan Masyarakat Sandakan here today.

According to Hajiji, this year’s theme, 'Membangun Ummah MADANI', is in line with the government’s aspiration to build a society balanced in spiritual and material aspects, while upholding Islamic values in the context of progress, prosperity and unity.

He also announced that the state-level Maulidur Rasul celebration will be held on a rotational basis in major towns across Sabah to give local communities the opportunity to participate in the gathering with state leaders.

The Chief Minister further said that the construction of the Sandakan Islamic Centre, initiated by Tun Musa Aman in 2017, will not only become a new landmark but also elevate the presence of Islam in Sabah’s second-largest city.

“Insya-Allah, we will continue to develop Sandakan in line with the SMJ Development Roadmap, which focuses on holistic and inclusive growth, especially as Sandakan, being the state’s second-largest city, has strong potential for advancement in education, tourism, business and trade,” he said.
