MELAKA, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- The Melaka Mufti Department will organise an Astronomy Community Gathering in conjunction with the total lunar eclipse on Sunday (Sept 7).
State Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman said the gathering is slated to begin at 11 pm and end at about 3.30 am.
"The lunar eclipse is expected to take place at 1.30 am on Sept 8 and is part of the programme in conjunction with the state-level Maulidur Rasul 1447H celebration themed 'Membangun Ummah MADANI’.
"That night, Melaka Mufti Datuk Abdul Halim Tawil will also deliver a sermon or 'khutbah’ on the eclipse, besides performing the eclipse solat sunat,” he said.
He told reporters this after the state-level Maulidur Rasul 1447H Gathering and Parade ceremony at Pusat Islam Melaka, Bukit Palah here today.
Earlier, the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Melaka, Tun Mohd Ali Rustam, led the parade by 6,227 participants in conjunction with the state-level Maulidur Rasul 1447H Gathering and Parade at the Tun Fatimah Stadium in Bukit Serindit.
The parade by 114 contingents, involving various government and private agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), began at 9 am and headed towards Pusat Islam Melaka in Bukit Palah, passing through Jalan Bukit Piatu and Jalan Bukit Baru, about 4 kilometres away.
