BALING, Sept 4 (Bernama) -- The Immigration Department (JIM) counter, offering online services for border pass applications and passport renewals, was one of the main attractions at the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) held at the Baling District Sports Complex today.
Fadilatul Akmal Abdul Khadir, 37, from Kupang, said he took the opportunity to apply for a border pass as he plans to visit Thailand soon.
“I was relieved to find out I could apply for the border pass here, as we usually have to travel far, either to Sungai Petani or Keroh, Perak,” he told Bernama.
Fadilatul Akmal said the service provided today has made it much easier for people living in rural areas to handle such tasks
For 75-year-old retired soldier Ishak Zakaria, from Kampung Batu 42 Pulai, the Immigration counter at the PMR event allowed him to renew the border pass for himself and his wife, who is bedridden and uses a wheelchair.
“This counter is a huge help. It’s easier for us now. I always keep our border passes updated because we have relatives in Thailand, and it's easier to go there in case of an emergency,” he said.
Wan Mariam Hamzah, 56, from Kampung Batu Tujuh, also took the opportunity to apply for her border pass, appreciating the speed and convenience.
“I’m thankful for this service. There aren’t many people, and with this border pass it will be much easier for me to travel to Thailand with my friends,” she said.
The PMR event in Kedah, organised by the Home Ministry (KDN) in collaboration with the Performance Acceleration Coordination Unit (PACU) and the Implementation Coordination Unit from the Prime Minister's Department, runs from today until Saturday.
In addition to the Immigration counter, visitors can also explore government service booths, community welfare programmes, the MADANI RAHMAH Sales, Agro MADANI Sales, traffic summons discounts by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), health services, job opportunities, and a helmet exchange programme by the Road Transport Department (JPJ).
