Young Generation Should Play Active Role As Agents Of Unity - Dr Wan Azizah

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- The young generation must take an active role as agents of unity, bridging Malaysia’s multiracial society, said Bandar Tun Razak Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Dr Wan Azizah, who is the wife of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, emphasised that differences in skin colour, language, and religion should not become barriers but instead serve as bridges of goodwill to strengthen ties among Malaysians.

“It is not our heritage to hurl insults. It is not our culture to demean one another. Our heritage and culture are built on courtesy, tolerance, and an open heart,” she said when opening the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary-level Ambang Merdeka Carnival today.

Also present were Director-General of the Community Communication Department (J-KOM) Datuk Ismail Yusop and the Prime Minister’s political secretary Datuk Azman Abidin.

Meanwhile, Ambang Merdeka Carnival programme director Kuek Po Guan said the two-day carnival, which began yesterday, featured participation from government agencies, non-governmental organisations, community groups, and the private sector, offering a wide range of entertainment, cultural, and community service activities.

“We have more than 30 exhibition stalls here, comprising both government and private agencies, offering free services such as health screenings and Measles-Rubella (MR) immunisations.

“There is also a Mobile Mercy Sale providing 10 to 30 per cent discounts on basic necessities such as cooking oil, rice, and eggs,” he said, inviting more visitors to join the carnival in celebrating National Day and enjoy the fireworks display.
