GM Klang’s Fun And freshen Up Initiative Revitalises Klang On Earth Warriors Day

SHAH ALAM, Aug 25 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s largest wholesale centre, GM Klang, hosted the Fun and Freshen Up programme last Saturday to clean and revitalise public spaces in Klang in conjunction with Earth Warriors Day 2025.

In a statement today, GM Klang said the initiative, part of the Wake Up Make Up campaign organised by the Royal Klang City Council (MBDK), was carried out in close collaboration with the Earth Warriors Association and the Malaysian Wholesalers Association (PPM).

Starting at 7.30 am, the event featured mural painting and ornamental tree planting by invited agencies to refresh the Taman Pengkalan Batu recreational area under MBDK’s coordination through the Wake Up Make Up campaign.

Meanwhile, GM Klang teams, alongside Earth Warriors and PPM, led the clean-up activities around the murals, the core focus of the Fun & Freshen Up campaign.

The event also included an Instagram Stories contest titled “I AM THE EARTH WARRIOR!”, where participants were invited to upload their most creative photos reflecting the spirit of being an Earth Warrior and tag GM Klang’s official account.

Five of the most creative entries were selected on the same day, with winners taking home exclusive prizes, including souvenirs and household items sponsored by GM Klang, showing that sustainability messages can be delivered in a fun and inclusive way.

GM Klang’s Senior Brand Communications Manager, Norsuhaida Othman, said the initiative began modestly last year in Bandar Botanic Klang, demonstrating how small efforts can create meaningful community impact.

She said the company was proud to bring the same mission to Taman Pengkalan Batu on a more organised scale this year, thanks to strong support from partners including the Earth Warriors Association, PPM and MBDK.

“Seeing participants come out early, working together to clean up and spread sustainability messages through the IG Story Challenge was truly inspiring.

“It shows that community clean-up efforts don’t have to be conventional. They can be creative, modern and enjoyable.

“We believe this approach can bring communities closer to sustainability values and hope to see the programme grow with more participants, more locations and stronger community spirit each year,” she said.

Norsuhaida added that GM Klang’s support for MBDK’s Wake Up Make Up campaign reflects its long-term commitment to environmental responsibility and impactful community partnerships.

Meanwhile, the Fun and Freshen Up initiative is more than a one-day programme; it is evolving into a platform to promote sustainable lifestyles, community ownership and creative public space enhancement, she added.

“GM Klang will continue to drive community-based initiatives to revitalise public spaces and strengthen community ties in Klang and surrounding areas,” she said.
