GUA MUSANG, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- Bedridden for the past 11 years, Mastaliza Mulian had been unable to renew her identity card but today the Temiar Orang Asli woman, who is also a person with disabilities (PwD), received a visit from the National Registration Department (JPN) team at her home in Pos Bihai to complete the renewal process.
Mastaliza, 29, who can only lie propped up, is unable to walk and has difficulty understanding conversations around her. She should have renewed her identity card when she turned 18, but her health condition prevented her family from taking her to the JPN office in Gua Musang.
Her father, Mulian Alok, 54, said his third child out of five siblings requires full-time care like a baby.
“Mastaliza was supposed to change her identity card at 18, but I couldn’t take her to the JPN office because she is bedridden. Even though she is 29, we still care for her like a baby. She only eats soft food and has to wear diapers,” he told reporters at Kampung Bihai Lama, here today.
Mulian admitted that he was not aware of JPN’s home-visit service and thanked the department for coming to his house after receiving a report about his daughter’s situation.
Meanwhile, Kelantan JPN assistant director Hezri Othman said through the Mekar (Menyemai Kasih Rakyat) Ihsan programme, the department focuses on providing registration services to those who are unable to be physically present at JPN offices.
“In line with the slogan ‘Rakyat di Hati JPN’, we go out into the field to identify and resolve people’s issues. In this case, the applicant was issued her identity card at 12 years old but had not renewed it at 18 as required, as she is bedridden,” he said.
He added that under Regulation 18 of the National Registration Regulations 1990 (Amendment 2007), every citizen who reaches the age of 18 must replace their identity card by the age of 25.
He said Mastaliza’s case was successfully resolved by the Mekar Ihsan team, which went directly to her family’s home.
