KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- Cries of ‘Merdeka’ resonate around Berjaya Times Square here tonight after the shopping mall was selected as the first location for the PENTARAMA MERDEKA@HOHO organised by the Information Department (JAPEN).
JAPEN director-general Julina Johan said Berjaya Times Square provided added value as it was not only a tourist attraction but had developed alongside Kuala Lumpur.
“Berjaya Times Square has long existed and is not the focus of local visitors but also foreign tourists, so throughout the National Month, we have made this iconic location as an open stage to raise the spirit of the National Day and Malaysia Day 2025,” she told Bernama, adding that every stop of the tour will have different performances that bring together patriotic, cultural and entertainment elements, in line with the diversity of the country.
“We hope that the performances, beginning with Berjaya Times Square tonight will inspire a love towards the country in more Malaysians and deliver a clearer National Day message through infotainment by JAPEN,” she added.
Meanwhile, Berjaya Times Square Kuala Lumpur assistant general manager (marketing and promotions) Alex Liew said the company was proud to be selected as a location for the event.
“We’re honoured to celebrate the occasion together in conjunction with the National Month at Berjaya Times Square.
“This initiative doesn’t only boost patriotism among Malaysians, but allows the introduction of our culture to tourists. We are excited to be part of this celebration,” he said.
The programme, entering its second year, returns with a fresher and higher impact concept, offering performances, dances and interactive quizzes on statehood, and Jalur Gemilang flags will be distributed to visitors as a symbol of unity and national pride.
Bernama also had the chance to be part of the Pentarama Merdeka@HOHO tour aboard the specially decorated KL Hop On Hop Off (HOHO) bus that serves as a mobile stage to promote national messages and the National Day Parade set to take place on Aug 31 at Dataran Putrajaya.
After its start at Berjaya Times Square tonight, the programme will continue at Sungei Wang before ending at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, with each bus stop becoming a stage to raise patriotism among the people.
