NADI Centres An Effective platform For Democratic Literacy And Youth Leadership - Johari

KUALA SELANGOR, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- The National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) network across the country can serve as an effective platform to educate the public on the democratic process.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said that through a NADI-Parliament collaboration, the centres can also act as reference points for the School Parliament and Youth Parliament programmes, which train young people in leadership and democratic literacy.

“This initiative aligns with NADI’s role as a community hub for accurate, reliable and up-to-date information,” he said in a statement by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission’s (MCMC) Corporate Communications unit today.

The statement added that Johari launched the Community Day Programme at NADI Pekan Ijok today, which received strong support from the multiracial community for the government’s efforts to enhance digital engagement at the grassroots level.

The programme featured opportunities for residents of all age groups to access information and take part in various activities, including NADI entrepreneurship exhibitions, smart farming demonstrations, membership registrations, free health screenings and Smart Services activities.

Johari said the strong turnout shows that NADI is well-received as an open community centre offering learning, health and socio-economic opportunities for all.

He said NADI has evolved beyond just an Internet centre, becoming an inclusive hub for students, youth, entrepreneurs, parents and senior citizens to gain knowledge, improve skills and enhance personal well-being.

To date, 1,099 NADI centres are operating nationwide, including 84 in Selangor, with more than 122,653 registered members, reflecting strong public acceptance of its role in bridging digital, knowledge and socio-economic gaps.

NADI’s impact was further recognised when it won the Capacity Building category at the 2025 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes in Geneva in July.
