PADANG BESAR, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- The Communications Ministry remains committed to ensuring that no Malaysian is left behind in the nation’s transformation agenda, regardless of location, age or socio-economic background.

Its secretary-general, Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, said various initiatives have been implemented towards this goal, including the National Digital Network Plan (JENDELA) and the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI).

He said as a result of these efforts, Malaysia has achieved remarkable strides, not only in developing communication infrastructure but also in empowering its citizens and communities.

“This is evident when the NADI initiative recently won the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland, under the Capacity Building category.

“This recognition reflects Malaysia’s effective approach to community empowerment and the tangible impact of NADI at the grassroots level,” he said in his speech at the launch of the Perlis Connect programme here today.

The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, officiated the launch.

Mohamad Fauzi said in Perlis, programmes under NADI such as entrepreneurship training have opened opportunities for rural communities to progress alongside global developments.

He added that the initiative has empowered many entrepreneurs in the state, enabling them to expand businesses and generate income through digital platforms.

“Names like Corn Dough Frozen D' Dapur Maksu, Mama Nory Bakery, Port Creative, and Embun Warisan Kayu demonstrate how appropriate support can empower local communities to generate income, build brands, and enhance the nation’s digital economy,” he said.

Mohamad Fauzi also stressed the ministry’s commitment to combating online fraud and crimes, protecting personal data, safeguarding user privacy and enhancing national cybersecurity.

He said that the Safe Internet Campaign, led by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in schools and public higher education institutions nationwide, will spark a new wave of awareness and responsibility among all parties to create a safer Internet.

The one-day Perlis Connect programme, organised by MCMC, offers various engaging and informative activities, including promoting safe Internet usage.

Held in collaboration with Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), the programme aims to increase public awareness about roaming to avoid extra charges in border areas, as well as to strengthen anti-bullying initiatives among students.

Also present were MCMC commission member Gen (Rtd) Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin, Bernama chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, MCMC managing director Abdul Karim Fakir Ali, and Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj.
