PUTRAJAYA, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- The first meeting of the Educational Institutions Security Reform Committee was held yesterday following an announcement by the Ministry of Education (MOE) on measures to strengthen security in all institutions under its purview.
In a statement on its official social media page, the MOE said the committee was established specifically to address emerging security challenges and to develop comprehensive solutions that safeguard the well-being of students, teachers, and all members of educational institutions.
“At its inaugural meeting, the committee set the direction and outlined a comprehensive action plan that will be implemented in stages,” it said.
The MOE added that the committee comprises a wide range of stakeholders, including academics, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), experts in various fields, law enforcement agencies, and representatives from the Parent, Community and Private Involvement (PIBKS) network.
Among those on the committee are Malaysian Children’s Commissioner to SUHAKAM Dr Farah Nini Dusuki, UNICEF representative Azlina Kamal, National Council of Malaysian Women’s Organisations (NCWO) president Prof Emerita Tan Sri Dr Sharifah Hapsah Syed Hassan Shahabudin, Parent Action Group for Education (PAGE) chairman Datin Noor Azimah Abdul Rahim, and National Union of the Teaching Profession (NUTP) secretary-general Fouzi Singon.
Others are KPJ Healthcare University deputy vice-chancellor (Academic) Prof Dr Dayang Anita Abdul Aziz, Malaysian Youth Council president Mohd Izzat Afifi Abdul Hamid, ARUS Academy chairman Alina Amir, Focal Person PIBKS representative Mohd Shaffik Mohd Kamil, MADANI Monitoring Unit director-general Mohd Khalid Mohamed Latiff, and medical practitioner and health influencer Dr Malar Santhi Santherasegapan.
The agencies in the committee are the Prime Minister's Department (Legal Affairs Division), the Royal Malaysia Police, the Department of Social Welfare, and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
The MOE emphasised its commitment to ensuring that security measures in educational institutions are continuously enhanced and effectively implemented.
