Hassan Basri Appointed New VC, President Of Unisel

SHAH ALAM, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- Universiti Selangor (Unisel) has appointed Prof Emeritus Datuk Ir Dr Hassan Basri as its eighth president and vice-chancellor for a three-year term, effective Aug 18. 

In a Facebook post, Unisel Corporate Communications Office director Hasril Abu Hassan said Hassan is replacing Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Mohammad Redzuan Othman, who retired on June 30.

“This appointment is a strategic move fully supported by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari to position Unisel as a leading university in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Malaysia.

“This aligns with Unisel’s recognition as one of six universities under the Malaysian Technical University Network (MTUN),” read the post.

According to Hasril, Hassan has extensive experience in academia, industry,  and management, and is also a Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), technical advisor at Produktif Sepakat Consulting Engineers Sdn. Bhd and quality director at Perunding Atur Trafik Sdn. Bhd.

He said Hassan holds a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) from the University of Tasmania, Australia (1982), a Master of Engineering (Honours) in Tropical Public Health Engineering from Leeds (1988), and a Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Engineering from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom (1994), with expertise in Environmental Engineering, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Engineering Education.

“Hassan also has significant industry experience from 1983 to 1998, making him a balanced figure between academia and real-world industry needs,” he added.
