PSM Seeking Hafizul, Zuleffendi For SEA Games Squad

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Sepaktakraw Association (PSM) is working to secure right attacker Hafizul Hayazi and left attacker Zuleffendi Sumari for the national squad at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand at the end of this year.

Its president Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan said discussions have been held with the coaches to ensure the two experienced players are brought in to strengthen the country’s challenge at the biennial Games.

“I’m working on these two players, John (Hafizul) and Pak Long (Zuleffendi). I’ve spoken to the coach to bring Pak Long and John into the national squad. We need both of them.

“The two were previously in the squad, but as everyone knows, they have issues with their employers. I will meet with their employers soon to appeal for their release so that they can join the national squad,” he said after the Thailand SEA Games selection meeting at Wisma OCM here today.

Hafizul and Zuleffendi were previously dropped from the national squad after failing to secure release from their employers, as a long leave period was required to join centralised training.

On the target for the Thailand SEA Games, Sumali said PSM has set a realistic goal of winning two gold medals through the men’s regu and men’s quadrant events, and two silvers in the mixed quadrant and men’s team regu events.
