KOTA KINABALU, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- The 2025 National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day (HPPNK) has recorded RM7.6 million in sales and attracted about 300,000 visitors as of the second day of the event yesterday.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said he was confident the target of 500,000 visitors and RM15 million in total sales could be achieved by the end of the programme tonight.
“As of this afternoon, I see a very encouraging response with large crowds coming in … so it’s not impossible to hit the target, especially since prices are usually lowered towards the end of the programme, which naturally boosts sales,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after the closing ceremony of HPPNK 2025, officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the Sabah International Convention Centre here today.
Mohamad also noted that this year’s event saw the signing of 14 strategic documents, including Memorandums of Understanding and Agreements, with a total value of RM526 million.
He said the ministry highlighted primary export commodities such as durian, pineapple and fresh coconut.
“In addition, avocado and onion crops from Sabah are also seen as having strong potential for expansion.
“Avocado cultivation has already started in Tawau and shows great promise, while onion farming is being carried out in Ranau and is thriving. I believe both crops can be developed for export in the future,” he added.
