KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- The War Zone Championship combat sports tournament scheduled for December has not received approval from the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS).
In a statement today, the ministry said any sports event, especially those involving international participation, must obtain approval from the Sports Commissioner of Malaysia (PJS) in accordance with the Sports Development Act 1997 [Act 576].
“For any international sporting event held without the approval of the Sports Commissioner, action may be taken under Section 36 of Act 576.
“KBS advises all parties to adhere to the regulations to safeguard the integrity and safety of sports in the country,” the statement said.
Earlier, a video of the War Zone Championship press conference went viral after showing two children, claimed to be participants of the tournament, fighting during the introduction session.
The incident drew negative reactions from social media users, who called on the authorities to investigate the tournament’s organisation.
