KOTA BELUD, Oct 13 (Bernama) -- The implementation of the Nuri Nutrition Garden by Bank Rakyat at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Narinang here is capable of nurturing a generation with entrepreneurial literacy starting from their school days, said Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister (KUSKOP) Datuk Ewon Benedick.
He said the programme not only introduces students to healthy eating practices but also provides them with the opportunity to learn the practical fundamentals of entrepreneurship and agriculture.
“We want the entrepreneurial spirit to start in school and develop as they grow older,” he told reporters after officiating the garden here today.
The Nuri Nutrition Garden at SK Narinang involves a hydroponic lettuce project of 540 pots, managed by 20 students from the school's Science Club as part of their educational and entrepreneurial activities.
Bank Rakyat also contributed RM19,825, benefiting 70 students at the school. This is the 29th project implemented by Bank Rakyat in schools nationwide since the initiative was introduced in 2020.
Since 2021 until now, the Nuri Nutrition Garden programme has benefited over 26,000 B40 students from 29 educational institutions across the country, generating more than RM55,000 in income from a harvest of over 17,000 kilograms of crops.
Ewon said Bank Rakyat is one of the most active agencies under KUSKOP in implementing corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes nationwide, including in rural areas like Narinang.
Earlier, Ewon also visited the Kota Belud Hospital and the Children's Ward to present contributions under the Bank Rakyat's BaktiRAKYAT initiative.
The contributions included the cost of building a pedestrian walkway at the hospital, while UDA Holdings also donated 10 wheelchairs and other necessities for the children's and general wards.
Ewon expressed his appreciation to both KUSKOP agencies for their concern for community well-being.
“Initiatives like this not only help the local community but also strengthen the role of agencies under KUSKOP in empowering social entrepreneurship and corporate responsibility,” he said.
