Kuantan MRSM Shifts To Home-based Learning After 114 Influenza Cases

KUANTAN, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- Kuantan MARA Junior Science College (MRSM) has allowed all its students to undergo home-based teaching and learning (PdPR) until Oct 22, following an influenza outbreak among its students.

Pahang Public Works, Transport and Health Committee chairman Datuk Razali Kassim said 114 cases had been recorded since Sunday, although none of the students required hospitalisation.

"The infection is suspected to have been brought in by students returning home during the school holidays from Sept 13 to 21.

"The infection has spread at school among students through daily activities in the dormitories and school, such as congregational prayers, eating in the hall and learning sessions in the classroom," he said in a statement today.

He said only 114 Form Four students were allowed to be at school to sit for examinations, under the supervision of the school and the Kuantan District Health Office.

Razali said control measures included isolating symptomatic students at home until full recovery, conducting daily case monitoring, and advising students and staff to seek prompt medical attention if symptoms developed.

"Further monitoring is ongoing to ensure that this outbreak can be fully controlled," he said.
