KOTA KINABALU, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- As of 8 am today, 415 flood victims from 113 families are at two temporary relief centres and one permanent relief centre in Sabah.
The State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) said 155 people from 51 families are currently at the Selagon permanent relief centre in Beaufort, which has been operating since Sept 9.
“The other two centres are Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) St Paul, Kolopis in Penampang, which is housing 59 people from 19 families, and Dewan Huguan Siou, which has 142 people from 32 families,” it said in a statement today.
JPBN stated that the number of evacuees at SK St Paul has been increasing due to continuous rain since last night, while the numbers at Dewan Huguan Siou are on the decline.
“A total of 22 villages have been affected by the floods, 14 in Penampang and eight in Beaufort,” read the statement.
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds for Sabah’s interior districts, namely Kuala Penyu, Beaufort, Keningau, and Tambunan, as well as the west coast areas of Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, and Kota Belud.
Meanwhile, the Membakut District Disaster Management Committee stated that the Dewan Masyarakat Bongawan temporary relief centre was opened at 8.22 am after inspections found that affected homes and areas were unsafe.
