13MP Strengthens Melaka's Position As Regional Tourism, Halal Hub - Melaka CM

MELAKA, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- The 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) is capable of becoming a major catalyst to strengthen Melaka’s position as a premier tourist destination, regional halal hub and a state more prepared to face climate change and improved infrastructure in the future.

Melaka chief minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh also welcomed the federal government’s focus on the development of the Special Tourism Investment Zone (STIZ), which involves the state as a major destination.

“STIZ will be a catalyst to the creation of new tourism products based on art, culture, heritage and natural environment, making the state more competitive at the international stage,” he said in a statement today.

He also reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting national aspirations in the halal industry to achieve a halal export value of RM80 billion and to contribute 11 per cent to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

"The state’s position as a strategic halal hub will be strengthened by the development of the Halal Industrial Park in the state and the setting up of the Malaysian Halal Commission,” he added.

He also shared that the state government had submitted applications for 258 high-impact projects worth RM7.15 billion under the 13MP Rolling Plan 1 for 2026, encompassing the development of modern infrastructure, digital economy and state strategic industries.

Melaka also will benefit from the implementation of the Sungai Baru flood mitigation plan that will reduce the risk of disasters, he said, adding that the state government supports the Water Transformation Plan 2040 to ensure adequate water supply.

“All initiatives under 13MP will be implemented through close partnership between the federal and state governments, the private sector and cooperatives to ensure the people of Melaka can benefit  from inclusive and high-impact development,” he added.
