Morocco Showcases National Transformation Under King's Reign -- Charge D'affaires

KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 (Bernama) -- Under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Morocco has witnessed remarkable modernisation across various sectors, reflecting his vision of a progressive and globally connected nation.

The Charge d'Affaires of the Embassy of Morocco in Malaysia, Mohammed Saidi, said the country has chosen not to restrict itself to the traditional industries, but also focus on the growth in new areas like automobiles, aeronautics, and renewable energies.

"A 'New Development Model' has been adopted in our approach, targeting a global and comprehensive development that will encompass every aspect of life in Morocco,".

"It is based on components forming a coherent and integrated system, aimed at speeding up the Moroccan transition and building a more prosperous Morocco," he said during the reception for the 26th Anniversary of the Enthronement of His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco, held here on Wednesday.

Saidi noted that Morocco has also built its reputation in the sports industry, accomplished through its world-class infrastructure and growing achievements, including its role as host of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan represented the Malaysian government at the reception.

Touching on the Palestinian cause, he said that the Kingdom has reaffirmed its unwavering support for efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict, and the King is also the chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, which plays a crucial role in safeguarding the cultural, religious and historical significance of the holy city of Al-Quds (Jerusalem).

Furthermore, Morocco's foreign policy is guided by the principles of the United Nations Charter, which, among others, comprises: respect for sovereignty, non-interference in other countries' affairs, and the diversification of partnerships without relying on any single bloc – particularly in its ties with African nations.

"The unified and principled position of the Gulf Cooperation Council states, along with the increasing support from Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America, further confirms the emergence of a strong international consensus on Morocco's Autonomy Plan, as the sole political solution for this regional dispute," he said.

Meanwhile, Saidi commended Malaysia on its 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship and expressed hope for deeper bilateral cooperation, noting that Morocco holds Sectoral Dialogue Partner (SDP) status within the regional organisation.

"The geographical distance should not hinder our attempts to do so, as long as the political will to open up new horizons in our bilateral relations has been expressed by both countries’ officials on several occasions," he said.
