PAPAR, July 23 (Bernama) -- Members of the MADANI Community have been urged to help monitor internet usage at National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI) to ensure the facilities are optimally utilised by the local community.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said his ministry provided internet access at NADI centres so that rural residents and users could access accurate and verified information on current issues.
“When we provide internet services, but the websites visited by residents and users are inappropriate, it’s very unhelpful,” he said in his speech at the ‘Sembang Santai’ programme with the MADANI Community for the Papar parliamentary constituency here today.
Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesman, said the Communications Ministry was highly committed to providing internet facilities through the construction of towers in populated areas, but such efforts would be meaningless if the internet was not utilised well.
Therefore, Fahmi said MADANI Community members should serve as a team that receives accurate information regarding government announcements so they could effectively explain issues to the local population.
Taking the appreciation announcement for Malaysians by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today as an example, Fahmi said a briefing session for all MADANI Community members, including those managing NADI, should be held within 24 hours to ensure they understood the contents of the announcement.
Fahmi said the MADANI Community must not only act as the “eyes” but also the “mouths”, by first obtaining factual clarity before relaying it to the local community using local dialects.
“Body language is also very important, which is why in the basic training programme for providing information, the delivery style is crucial. If we appear confident, people will be more receptive,” he said, adding that NADI should also organise online fraud and safety awareness programmes, especially for children under 13.
