SHAH ALAM, July 22 (Bernama)-- The 20th Malaysian Games (SUKMA) 2026 will be held in Selangor from Aug 15 to 24, with the Para SUKMA tournament scheduled from Sept 5 to 14, announced Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari today.
He said the official logo and mascot for both biennial events will be unveiled on Aug 15, marking one year to the opening of the youth sports festival.
The Games will feature 28 core sports and five additional disciplines, while Para SUKMA will include 10 core sports. The SUKMA Supreme Council will announce further details after its meeting in early August, he added.
Competitions will take place across nine districts and 12 local authorities in Selangor, except for track cycling events, which will be held at the National Velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan.
More than 10,000 athletes and officials from 15 state contingents, including a delegation from Brunei Darussalam, are expected to participate, Amirudin said.
Regarding financial support for Team Selangor, he stated that any additional funding would depend on recommendations from the Selangor Sports Council.
“As host, our contingent bears a heavy responsibility to ensure success and aims to reclaim the overall championship, as achieved in 2006, 2013, and 2016. Selangor has consistently ranked among the top four or five,” he said.
