SANDAKAN, July 15 (Bernama) -- A fisherman who was reported missing and feared to have been attacked by a crocodile in a river near Taman Kenari, Batu 7, here, yesterday, was found dead this afternoon.

Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station chief Jimmy Lagung said the body of Obing Markum, in his 30s, was found at 2.10 pm, about one kilometre from where his boat was discovered, during a search and rescue operation.

“The victim had gone fishing at about 6 pm yesterday before his boat was later discovered by villagers with what appeared to be crocodile bite marks.

“We began the search operation at 8.57 am today, assisted by personnel from the Wildlife Department, Civil Defence Force, Marine Police Force and members of the public,” he said when contacted.

Jimmy said the body of the foreign man was later handed over to the police before being taken to Sandakan Hospital for further action.
