KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 (Bernama) -- The Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) today reminded the public against providing false or misleading statements, information or reports to the Registrar of Companies.
In a statement today, SSM said legal action would be taken against those found doing so.
“SSM is always consistent in its efforts to regulate compliance with the provisions of the laws it administers, while ensuring that the corporate community remains aware of its responsibilities and practices business ethics with integrity,” it said in the statement.
It cited a case at the Kajang Criminal Sessions Court involving a company director who was charged for allowing the company secretary to provide false statements regarding the appointment of directors and company secretaries to the Registrar of Companies.
It said the company director, Sandra Sheager Chidambaram, was charged with the offence last June 20. She was charged under Section 593(a) of the Companies Act 2016, which provides imprisonment for up to 10 years or a maximum fine of RM3 million or both upon conviction.
She pleaded not guilty and was allowed bail of RM12,000. The court set August 22 for mention for the submission of documents by the prosecution.
