JOHOR BAHRU, June 18 (Bernama) -- Johor police activated omnipresence monitoring at seven tourist hotspots around the district starting June 14 to improve security in line with Visit Johor Year next year.
Johor police chief CP Datuk M Kumar said the monitoring method by officers at the hotspots could ensure better efficiency, thus helping to reduce crime rates and strengthen the public's perception of peace and security.
He said a total of 80 officers were involved in the assignment around the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI), Bazar Karat, KSL shopping mall, Berjaya Waterfront Hotel, Mid Valley Southkey, Sentosa and Angsana Johor Bahru Mall.
"The assignment of officers to the area is based on peak hours, this includes visits to shops and officers will also meet with traders and visitors, thus strengthening the situation of Johor being a safe place to live," he said when met by reporters at the Johor Contingent Monthly Assembly at the Johor contingent police headquarters, here today.
Kumar said omnipresence received a positive response from the community, and he plans to continue implementing it as a daily monitoring method.
"We will continue this programme and the assignments will be made according to specific times. I'm planning to make it a daily thing, this week we will see the effectiveness of the monitoring,'' he said.
When asked about the progress of the investigation into the video edited using artificial intelligence (AI) technology involving him, Kumar said so far no suspects have been identified but the investigation is actively underway.
He said the police are also cooperating and seeking assistance from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
"I would like to take this opportunity to advise the public to be vigilant against digital impersonations which are now becoming increasingly sophisticated," he said.
Kumar in a previous statement denied a viral video on TikTok showing an individual allegedly resembling him receiving assistance from 'Datok Abdul Malik'.
He was quoted as saying the video was not true and had been manipulated using AI technology.
