MAKKAH, June 8 (Bernama) -- Saudi Arabia’s Project for the Utilisation of Hady and Adahi (Adahi Project) said a total of 287,067 Udhiyas - sacrificial animals slaughtered in conjunction with Eid Al-Adha - were processed on the first day of the celebration.
The number represents an average of 379 Udhiyas per minute, or roughly 23,000 per hour, demonstrating the scale and efficiency of operations carried out in coordination with the relevant authorities, the national initiative said in a statement.
General Supervisor of the Adahi Project, Saad Al-Wabel, said monitoring and supervision are ongoing at all slaughter facilities and sales outlets to ensure quality, safety and adherence to religious guidelines throughout the operation.
He added that the slaughtering and distribution process would continue during the Days of Tashreeq (three days following Eid al-Adha), with meat deliveries scheduled both within the Kingdom and abroad.
“Our focus remains on ensuring safe, healthy, and timely delivery to all eligible recipients, with the highest levels of quality and competence in performing this ritual,” he said in the statement.
Of the Udhiyas processed, 19,931 were distributed to eligible beneficiaries, in line with health regulations and the project’s humanitarian objectives, added the statement.
The project also reported that 811,486 heads of livestock were sold this season, reflecting strong demand and logistical readiness.
Established in 1983, the Adahi Project is overseen by the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites in partnership with the Islamic Development Bank.
It facilitates the ritual sacrifice on behalf of pilgrims and donors, ensuring proper handling and wide-reaching meat distribution across more than 27 countries.
The project is regarded as a central component of Saudi Arabia’s Hajj operations, operating modern facilities with the capacity to handle up to 1.5 million sheep and 10,000 camels or cattle annually.
