JOHOR BAHRU, May 24 (Bernama) -- The enthusiastic response to the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) is a clear sign that the public is increasingly embracing and understanding the aspirations of the MADANI Government, said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
He said the three-day Johor PMR, which is being held at Toppen Shopping Centre, was the first to be organised on a medium scale, adding that as of yesterday, it had managed to draw over 45,000 visitors, far surpassing the initial target of 10,000.
"One more day to go. Insyallah, we can reach up to 50,000 visitors. This reflects the growing public interest in government-led programmes," he told reporters today.
Johor PMR 2025 involves 19 ministries and agencies, with a special focus on youths carrying the theme "Belia MADANI, Yakin Boleh!".
The main highlights of the programme include direct government services such as two-hour passport renewals by the Immigration Department, traffic summons inquiry and payment counters, and other services provided by the state government and federal agencies.
Shamsul Azri said such programmes provide the public with direct exposure to the MADANI concept, which is the foundation of the country's administration.
"We want the people to understand what MADANI is and the message the government is trying to convey by hosting such programmes. The public can see the initiatives and facilities provided for their welfare," he said.
He said the public might not fully understand government policies, but the programme's face-to-face interaction makes explanations more effective.
"Everything we do is for the people. We go down to the ground to engage with the public so that no one feels marginalised and knows that the government is always by their side," he added.
Johor PMR 2025 was initially targeted to attract more than 25,000 visitors, as announced by the host, the Performance Acceleration Coordination Unit (PACU) under the Prime Minister's Department.
Johor is the second location for this year's PMR tour after Sabah (May 9–11). It will continue in Lumut, Perak; Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu; Kota Lama, Kelantan; Nilai, Negeri Sembilan; Baling, Kedah; Jasin, Melaka; and Bintulu, Sarawak.
PMR has become a strategic platform for the federal government, state governments, government agencies, and relevant government-linked companies to deliver information, opportunities, and services directly to the people.
