IPOH, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- The Perak government will extend assistance to flood victims in Muallim district, which was inundated following heavy rain earlier today.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, in a statement posted on Facebook, said the state government would do its best to ease the burden of those affected.
“Our gratitude to all volunteers, agencies and departments involved in rescue and relief efforts. May the victims remain strong in facing this ordeal,” he said.
Saarani visited several flood-hit areas this afternoon, including the temporary relief centres (PPS) at Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Sungai Sekiah Batu 7, Behrang Ulu and Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Pasir, Ulu Slim.
He also inspected Kampung Baru, Behrang Ulu and the Orang Asli settlement in Sungai Lembing.
Earlier, the Perak State Disaster Management Committee said the number of evacuees in Muallim rose to 194 people from 48 families as of 4 pm, up from to 131 people from 30 families at 2 pm.
Three PPS have been activated in Muallim, namely Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Sungai Sekiah Batu 7, Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Pasir and Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Pauh, Behrang Stesen.
