KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged all residents in flood-prone areas in Sabah to be aware of weather alerts and ready to evacuate when instructed by the authorities.

The National Disaster Management Committee chairman also reminded the public that their safety and that of their families should be a shared priority, adding that the authorities were monitoring the current situation and ensuring all agencies would be ready to provide assistance if the situation worsens.

“I follow the latest developments on the flooding in Sabah, especially in Penampang and Beaufort, where over 400 affected residents have been evacuated to relief centres.

“Let us pray that the situation returns to normal soon and that all assistance efforts go well,” he posted on Facebook today.

A total of 396 individuals from 126 families remain at relief centres in Beaufort and Penampang this evening compared to 409 individuals from 110 families this morning.
