GEORGE TOWN, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- In conjunction with the Malaysia Day 2025 celebration at the PICCA Convention Centre @ Butterworth Arena on Sept 16, several public transport facilities and special promotions have been arranged to make it easier for the public to attend.
Penang Port Commission (SPPP) chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin said that Penang Port will provide free ferry services on Sept 15 and 16 for Malaysian citizens, upon presenting their MYKAD or MYKID at the ferry counter.
“This is to support the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, particularly the initiative to provide an additional public holiday for Malaysia Day, and we hope it will help ease the burden on Malaysians,” he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, low-cost carrier AirAsia is also adding to the Malaysia Day celebrations with a special promotion.
AirAsia Northern Region director, Kenneth Tan, said the airline is offering Malaysia Day fares starting from RM57 for flights departing from Penang International Airport (LTAPP) to several destinations.
“At AirAsia, we are running the ‘AirAsia Malaysia Day Sale’ from Sept 15 to 21 for flights between Sept 15 and June 30, with one-way fares starting from RM57.
“Destinations from Penang include Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi (Kedah), Kota Kinabalu (Sabah), Shenzhen (China), Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam), Medan, and Jakarta (Indonesia),” he said when contacted by Bernama.
He added that AirAsia is also offering savings of up to 30 per cent through its ‘Value Pack’ and ‘Value Pack Lite’ promotions.
Meanwhile, Penang Information Department (JAPEN) director Hasmiza Hussein urged the public to use the Rapid Penang on-demand van service, which offers a more convenient and cost-effective way to reach PICCA Convention Centre @ Butterworth Arena.
“Following discussions with Rapid Penang, the public is encouraged to use the on-demand van service to attend the Malaysia Day celebration,” she said.
The Malaysia Day Celebration 2025, themed ‘Malaysia MADANI: Rakyat Disantuni,’ will be held on Sept 16 at PICCA Convention Centre @ Butterworth Arena. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to officiate the event at 8.30 pm, which will also be attended by Penang Governor Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, and Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
On June 11, Fahmi announced that this year’s Malaysia Day celebration would be held in Penang, in line with the practice of rotating the annual event between Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.
