No Need For Special Bullying Squad In School - Kedah Police Chief

09/09/2025 09:03 PM

ALOR SETAR, Sept 9 (Bernama) -- There is no need to deploy a special team in schools, instead, surprise visits will be carried out more frequently to prevent bullying issues, said Kedah police chief Datuk Adzly Abu Shah.

According to Adzly, bullying cases in Kedah also showed an increase from 10 cases during January to August 2024 to 30 cases during the same period this year.

"But so far there is no need to deploy a special squad because we already have a school liaison officer, and when bullying issues arise we will conduct inspections, especially in hostels, to the point where we go at night, the district police chief also visits the hostel to prevent bullying issues.

"There is no schedule for visits, but we look and think about the appropriate time, maybe at night, on weekends, on non-school days…. not all schools, only potential schools, but I have given instructions to go down more frequently and I have planned a time when I will go down too if there is space,” he said.

He told reporters after the Kedah Contingent PDRM Town Hall programme which discussed the topic of ‘Bullying, Challenges, Responsibilities and Joint Solutions’ involving schools and students here, today.

Adzly said police would focus especially on schools with serious disciplinary problems.

In another development, he said his party was still waiting for a response from the investigation regarding the recent arrest of a Malaysian in Sadao, Thailand with firearms and hundreds of bullets.

“Of course, this border is under the responsibility of Kedah police… We are still waiting for a response on the suspect’s modus operandi, how he brought in (weapons), indeed we always tighten control at the border.

"We will also investigate if there is an element of leakage. We will not compromise if there are members involved. This year alone we have suspended 56 people, we will not compromise, let alone cases of leakage, firearms and drugs," he said.

Thai media previously reported that the man, aged in his 30s, was detained at about 5.35 pm at a roadblock by members of the Sadao district police station and an inspection of the vehicle with Malaysian registration number driven by the suspect found two M4 rifles along with 300 rounds of 5.56 millimetre (mm) calibre bullets.

Also seized were seven 5.56mm ammunition magazines, 100 rounds of .45mm calibre bullets and 50 rounds of 9mm calibre bullets.
