MMEA Proposes New Radar System To Bolster Enforcement Along Kelantan Coast

08/09/2025 06:27 PM

KOTA BHARU, Sept 8 (Bernama) -- The Kelantan Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) plans to install the Remote Sensored Site (RSS) Swasla radar system in the state's coastal area to enhance enforcement operations.

Kelantan MMEA director, Maritime Captain Erwan Shah Soahdi, said the radar system has been proposed for construction in Mukim Tabar, Tumpat, due to it’s location bordering Thailand.

He said the radar installation in the area would boost the detection of cross-border criminal activities.

“So far, Kelantan MMEA is in the midst of securing a site as a permanent office for the Pengkalan Kubor Maritime Post,” he told reporters here. today.

He said the Pengkalan Kubor Maritime Post has been operating since Feb 6, 2013, occupying a 900-square-foot building and jetty at the Pengkalan Kubor Customs Complex.

He added that the limitations of the existing facility had hindered operational effectiveness in the area.  Therefore, a four-hectare site has been identified as a strategic location for the development of the Pengkalan Kubor Maritime Post, he said

“This area is well-suited for development as an office, staff quarters, and to accommodate the RSS Swasla, due to its proximity to Thailand and its position as a key route for smuggling operations by sea before reaching the river estuaries,” he said..

Erwan Shah said the proposal has been submitted to the MMEA Development Division and subsequently was forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) for consideration and approval.

“Kelantan Maritime hopes the proposal for the permanent development of the Pengkalan Kubor Maritime Post will be approved soon for the benefit of Malaysia Maritime’s operations,” he added.
