KUCHING, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- Sarawak Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar led the Sarawak-level Maulidur Rasul 1447 Hijrah procession which began from Padang Merdeka here today.
The procession involved about 10,000 participants from 209 contingents, covering a distance of around three kilometres in the city centre, and was also joined by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
In his address at the gathering before the procession, Tun Wan Junaidi said the Sarawak administration has adopted, and will continue to adopt, the principles of maqasid syariah as the foundation in formulating policies and implementing development.
He said that development carried out must safeguard religion, life, intellect, lineage and property, in line with Islam’s injunction to develop the world without neglecting the hereafter.
“The implementation of the Post Covid Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) emphasises balance between the digital economy, environment, social aspects and inclusivity. Therefore, it is our collective responsibility to defend it for the sake of justice and the well-being of all the people,” he added.
