KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 5 (Bernama) -- Three former WorldTeam riders will bolster the challenge of Italian ProTeam, Solution Tech-Vini Fantini in the eight-day Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) when it kicks off on Sept 28.
Previously known as Team Corratec and having competed in the 2022 edition of the LTdL, their riders are no strangers to Asian races, having bagged many victories, and as such, will not be hampered by the hot weather conditions.
Spearheading Solution Tech’s charge will be Alexandre Balmer, formerly of Team Jayco-AlUla; Matteo Fabbro, formerly of Team Bora-Hansgrohe; and sprint specialist Dusan Rajovic, formerly of Team Bahrain Victorious.
LTdL chief operating officer Emir Abdul Jalal said the combination of these three experienced riders and the two original Corratec riders - Allesandro Iachi and Attilio Viviani - from the 2023 edition of the LTdL provides a balance that will allow them to challenge for either stage wins or the overall individual green jersey.
“We often see ProTeams and Continental Teams give tough competition to the elite WorldTeams at LTdL, and based on their individual strengths, Solution Tech looks like one of the teams capable of providing the challenge this year,” he said in a statement today.
The LTdL is a 2.ProSeries event - the second-highest tier of men's elite road cycling tours, just below the UCI World Tour - and it is organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) through the National Sports Council (NSC), with the support of the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF).
The eight-stage LTdL 2025 will pass through all 12 states in Peninsular Malaysia, covering a total distance of 1,243.5 kilometres (km).
It will start on Langkawi Island on Sept 28 and end in front of the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) here on Oct 5.
Stage 1: Langkawi Island (96.5km;) Stage 2: Padang Besar to Kepala Batas (170.1km); Stage 3: Gerik to Pasir Puteh (198.2km); Stage 4: Kuala Terengganu to Kemaman (140.8km); Stage 5: Temerloh to Fraser's Hill, Pahang (133.7km); Stage 6: Shah Alam to Port Dickson (123.4km); Stage 7: Melaka to Medini (214.6km); and Stage 8: Tangkak to Kuala Lumpur (180.5km).
