SEPANG, Aug 26 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Deaf Sports Association (MSDeaf) has set an initial target of three gold medals at the Deaflympics, which will be held in Tokyo, Japan in November.

Its president, Dr. Ong Shin Ruenn, said the target is considered realistic based on the outstanding achievements of the national contingent at the recently ended 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Deaf Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.

In the previous edition, we won two gold medals in badminton and bowling at the Deaflympics.

"For this time, we will add one medal and perhaps aim for athletics," he said when met after returning from the SEA Deaf Games at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

For the record, at the Jakarta edition, the national contingent finished as overall champions with 25 gold, 16 silver and 11 bronze medals.

The 25 gold medals were contributed by 10 medals from athletics, eight (bowling), five (chess) and two (badminton).

Meanwhile, Dr Ong said his team would continue to focus on preparing the country's athletes for the Deaflympics.

He added that MSDeaf will also collaborate with local authorities in Japan to ensure the smooth running of the Malaysian contingent's affairs throughout the games.
