JAKARTA, Aug 26 (Bernama) -- Bilateral defence ties were reinforced when officers from the Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) and the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) exchanged knowledge and experience during the 2025 Junior Officer Exchange Programme (JOEP).

A 10-member TNI AU delegation led by Colonel A. Kholiq Yulianto, head of the 700th Air Defence Education Wing, visited Kuala Lumpur, Subang, Kedah, and Melaka during the five-day programme which ended on Aug 23.

The TNI AU said in a statement that the exchange programme included courtesy visits, briefings on RMAF operations, and discussions at the Air Management Training Institute which covered air defence, air traffic control, and firefighting.

The participants were also given insights into the RMAF’s Capability Development Plan 2055, a long-term plan to modernise and enhance Malaysia's air defence, operational readiness, and multi-domain capabilities.

The delegation toured military facilities, including Squadron 8 at Subang Air Force Base and the Air Force College in Kedah, where Colonel Kholiq tested the EC-120 Colibri simulator and viewed an RMAF A-400 aircraft.

The Indonesian officers also visited Malaysian cultural and historical landmarks, including Red Square (Dutch Square) in Melaka, KL Craft Museum, Petronas Twin Towers, and Putrajaya.

The RMAF, in a separate statement, said the programme not only enhanced military diplomacy but also served as a platform for exchanging knowledge, expertise, best operational practices, and understanding of workplace culture.

“It reflects the long-term commitment of both air forces to strengthening a robust, progressive, and mutually trusted defence cooperation network,” the RMAF added.
