KUALA NERUS, Aug 25 (Bernama) -- Malaysia aims to emerge as champions in the 2025 Lawn Bowls World Cup, which will be from Nov 4 to 8 at Arena Lawn Bowls, Bukit Kiara in Kuala Lumpur.
Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim said his ministry was confident that the target could be achieved based on the national team’s performance and the preparations made.
“The organising by Malaysia through Bowls Malaysia is an opportunity not only to show off the lawn bowling talent we have but we can prove our country’s capability in organising a global championship.
“To ensure Malaysia can organise the World Cup smoothly, KBS (the Youth and Sports Ministry) will provide assurances to assist from various angles,” he told reporters after the launch of the 2025 National Lawn Bowls Championship at the Lawn Bowling Court, Gong Badak Sports Complex here today, which was officiated by Bowls Malaysia’s royal patron Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin.
He also shared that the Malaysian team has been to Scotland to undergo training together with the best team there and that the World Cup would be the best chance the team has to prepare themselves for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
A total of about 200 participants are competing in the 2025 National Lawn Bowls Championship, Adam Adli said, and they will be awarded points based on their performance that will determine their position in the National Ranking System.
The ranking is a major indicator in the selection of athletes to represent the country at major international championships, he added.
