KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 24 (Bernama) -- An interactive vehicle, Mobile ReproAlert, has been launched to provide reproductive health education in an effort to prevent social issues such as unplanned pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases.
The initiative, a collaboration between the Malaysian Muslim Medical and Health Practitioners Association (I-Medik) and Sime Darby Foundation (YSD), features a mobile vehicle with multimedia displays, youth-friendly reference materials, and private counselling spaces.
YSD chief executive officer Dr Yatela Zainal Abidin said the vehicle will visit schools, public housing programmes and rural communities nationwide to tackle social issues.
“Over 4,000 teenage pregnancies are recorded annually in Malaysia, with many affected youths dropping out of school. This is not just a health issue but also an education and life opportunity concern,” she said at the launch officiated by Bandar Tun Razak MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Yatela added that the programme aims to empower youths to make informed choices, build confidence, and improve reproductive health awareness among parents.
Meanwhile, Dr Wan Azizah, who is also the Prime Minister’s wife, expressed concern over youths facing unhealthy lifestyles, social problems, and mental health issues.
“With both parents often working, effective monitoring is difficult. Mobile ReproAlert is a commendable initiative that should reach those in need,” she said.
She also called for special attention to health and education in Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary constituency under the 2026 Budget, following the outcome of a community engagement session today.
“The budget must reflect the people’s real needs, with human development as a priority,” she added.
