Wanita Perak Calls On Senior Citizens Activity Centres To Hold National Month Programmes

KUALA KANGSAR, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- The Perak Women and Community Development Secretariat Office (Wanita Perak) has called on every Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PAWE) in the state to hold National Month celebration programmes to instil the spirit of patriotism among the elderly.

Wanita Perak director Jamilah Zakaria said that organising creative National Month celebrations at PAWEs, where senior citizens congregate for activities, would also attract local community participation.

"Although they are ageing, the spirit of patriotism will continue to burn brightly in them when they join in to celebrate the National Month.

"They are a generation who have gone through various eras of the country's development, and as such, their experiences will be priceless when shared with the younger generation,” she said when met after officiating the launch of the Merdeka Senior Citizens and Cergas PAWE Manong programme near here today.

Jamilah said Wanita Perak will continue to support all initiatives carried out at PAWEs.

"So far, there are over 19 PAWEs registered statewide, with the active participation of thousands of senior citizens, and I understand that four more centres are set to be established by the Social Welfare Department (JKM),” she said.

She added that efforts to empower the independence celebrations at the PAWEs are also among the approaches taken to help overcome the issue of loneliness among the elderly, who are at risk of feeling neglected if not given space to continue being active in the community.
