PETRA Enhancing Processes To Accelerate Implementation Of RE Projects - DPM Fadillah

15/10/2025 11:12 PM

PETALING JAYA, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) is currently improving existing processes to reduce bureaucratic red tape so that Renewable Energy (RE) projects awarded through the bidding process can be implemented more quickly.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said that various factors need to be taken into account as the country plans its energy transition implementation in line with the targets set under the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).

Fadillah, who is also Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, said that apart from technology that plays an crucial role in the development of green energy, system reliability and fuel diversity are also important considerations.

"With the continuous increase in electricity demand, Malaysia must effectively address the aforementioned factors.

"In this regard, the government will continue to ensure these values are maintained through a competitive bidding process while also encouraging innovation from investors," he said when delivering his speech at a dinner event to mark Malakoff Corporation Bhd’s 50th Anniversary celebration here, tonight.

He said that under the NETR, the target is to achieve RE energy mix capacity of 41 per cent in 2035 and subsequently 70 per cent of installed capacity by 2050.

To support and accelerate the country’s energy transition, PETRA has played an active role as a facilitator, coordinator, and key driver, he added.

Among the initiatives, he said that in January this year, the bidding process for PETRA’s Large-Scale Solar (LSS) 5+ for a new solar capacity of 2,000 megawatts was launched — one of the largest capacities in the country’s history.

“We are also facilitating access for the private sector to obtain clean energy directly from suppliers through the Corporate Green Power Programme (CGPP) and the Corporate RE Supply Scheme (CRESS).

“These measures will not only boost renewable energy capacity but also build market confidence and attract private investment,” Fadillah added.

Also present at the event were Malakoff chairman Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, Malakoff group chief executive officer Syahrunizam Samsudin, and Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) chief executive officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.
