EC Urged To Implement Postal Vote For Sabah, Sarawak Voters In The Peninsula

15/10/2025 08:52 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- A Member of Parliament has proposed that a postal voting system be implemented to make it easier for Sabahans and Sarawakians who are in the Peninsula or vice versa to fulfil their responsibilities in the elections.

Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) said the matter should be implemented by the Election Commission (EC) as part of the institutional reform efforts.

"Ahead of the Sabah state election, I would like to propose allowing this postal voting to be implemented," he said when debating the Supply (Budget) Bill 2026 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

On Oct 6, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced the dissolution of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly to make way for the 17th Sabah state election.

The EC will hold a special meeting to discuss important dates for the election tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Chow Kon Yeow (PH-Batu Kawan) said efforts towards the signing of a joint agreement between the federal and state governments on the sharing of state tax revenue or the return of revenue collected to each state must be implemented immediately.

The Penang Chief Minister said the efforts, including amendments to the Federal Constitution, would achieve a more relevant sharing model and benefit the people of this country.

The sitting resumes tomorrow.
