JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- The influenza situation in Johor is under control, with nine clusters recorded so far and no new ones detected, said State Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon.

He said one of the clusters involves a Special Education Integrated Programme (PPKI) class at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Taman Permas Jaya 2, which was reported recently.

“There are currently nine influenza clusters in Johor. The situation remains under control, and we hope it will not get worse,” he told reporters after officiating the Bulan Malaysia Sihat Sejahtera celebration and Ops Selamat Paru-Paru here today.

Ling also advised schools and the public to immediately send students and staff showing symptoms of infection to nearby healthcare facilities.

According to him, the Johor State Health Department, together with the District Health Offices, is actively monitoring the situation to ensure it remains under control.

Asked whether health screening is being conducted at border crossings to control the spread, Ling said it is among the standard operating procedures (SOP) long enforced by the Health Ministry (MOH).

“The MOHconducts regular health screenings, including body temperature checks. For now, there is no need to step up control measures, and any further action will be taken based on the ministry’s directive,” he said.

Last Wednesday, Johor Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin was reported as saying that the PPKI class at SK Taman Permas Jaya 2 would be closed for 10 days from Oct 8 following the spread of influenza cases.

The decision was made after five students, a teacher and a student management assistant were found positive for influenza A, with 15 other students in the same class showing similar symptoms.
